I have been looking for areas to bowhunt as we really don’t have alot of big areas opened to anyone closer to home. One bowhunter asked if I was intrested in the JTC and I went in to get information and was awed about the hugh land and went right to the petition to keep it going.
Let’s keep it open and running!

As a taxpayer and owner of Joliet Training Area I can’t see a worse fate than for this property to be developed. It is by far the best public wildlife habitat in northeast Illinois. Illinois military personel should be trained in Illinois. This location near the Chicago metroplitan area is ideal for both military and taxpaying sportsmen. Such properties are few and far between.

The JTA is one of the best managed wildlife public hunting areas around. Don’t let big business ruin a true treasure for sportsman and military personel.

NE Illinois and DNR Region 2 cannot afford to loose any hunting lands or opportunity.

I myself have never hunted, but I believe it’s an outrage too many of our politicians in northern Illinois have been selling out traditionally-hunted properties into either developments or untouchable preserves. The great tradition of hunting has been all but eroded away in northern Illinois.
Time to conserve as many lands as possible, including Joliet Training Center.

I believe that JTA should remain open for training of our troops. I think if our government surpluses or can not afford to budget this then Midewin should acquire this land

Please let’s call our senators to keep the Joliet Training Area open Its the best and only public wildlife property around for hunter, and trappers.

There are too few hunting opportunities in northern Il. Keep JTA open for all taxpayres to enjoy. What a crime “give” it away to benefit the politically connected.

I believe this area should remain open. It is needed for our country’s security. If it cannot remain open I think Midewin should get this land instead of developement, it would be a shame to see this genm of a wildlife habitat disappear….there is not much like it left in the state of Illinois anymore!

Its bad enough the farmers are selling out to the subdivisions and business development, now the government! Every time you turn around more and more wildlife habitat is lost to these developers , when will it stop? It turns my stomach to think yet another public land may be lost forever. I think this land should stay just as it is, for the people and wildlife . Whether its for military and law enforcement training to the avid hunter or to the average joe passing by watching a deer run in the woods. I speak for many when i say “quit taking and start giving”.

JTC has provided many of us the opportunity of a life time. Through my own personal experiences, I would hate to see future generation’s lose out on these very same experiences.
JTC has shown me what the outdoors and wildlife are truly about, and this I have passed on to my own two children. Sharing in the great outdoors provides an environment our youth can find friendship, family values, and a passion like no other.
Our Military and local law enforcement as well deserve a place to train so we the general public can feel our country is secure.
It would be a dishonor to our state, if conservation and family values loses out to a poor business decision.

The closing of JTA would be a huge detriment to so many, be it military, police, or sportsmen. Keep it OPEN! If we keep letting these pieces of natural habitat slip away, future generations will never know what the REAL world was like, let the enjoyments of it all!!!

Northern Illinois does not need to loose another piece of land to development. The sportsmen and soldiers cant afford to loose a gem like this.

I am a bowhunter and I believe that it would be a major loss if we lose JTC to big business! The troops and law enforcement need a place close to home where they can train. As a vet myself, I was glad that JTC was here for me to take training at. As a hunter, I am GREATFUL that JTC is open to the public for hunting. The way that land owners are today and the great loss of land due to developement, we the public can not aford to lose this great peice of land. So contact your state reps. and let them know how you truely feel. If JTC has to be sold let Midewin buy it and let the public be able to enjoy this great property!!!!!!!!

This location needs to be saved for Military and Law Enforcement training needs - why should Illinois taxpayers pay for out of state training, when these people can be trained here for a lower cost?
Also as a hunter I believe JTA should be preserved to allow hunting opportunities for my generation and succeeding generations - where will today’s youth go to hunt? How can they learn to appreciate the outdoors with nowhere to go? This is a fabulous spot and should be preserved.

The Joliet Training Center should be preserved as an active site for military and police training, as well as to remain open for controlled hunting and trapping by the taxpaying citizens of Illinois.

As a former federal police officer I know how hard it is to find a place to train where differant agencys can come togather they are not easy to find.For the local police departments and the millitary to loose this facility would be unthinkable.And once it is gone it is gone for ever.It always amazed me how well this place is managed between the public hunting and the training that goes on it would be dark day to the people of that area and to the hunters like me who have enjoyed so many good memoreys at jta.Please lets do everthing we can to save this wonderful place.

What a great place to hunt! PLease don’t close it! My Dad and I love to hunt here and can’t wait to hunt here in years to come! Don’t let more land be turned into the modern man’s urban jungle. Keep it as God intended it to be! Wild!

there are not enough private properties open to hunting lets not lose this top notch facility, I successfully hunted for deer in the shotgun season last year and had a great experience. the biologist does a great job.

This is just another way of the government trying to take control. If we cant hunt then we don’t need weapons !!!!!!!! Lets save this land and show the people that we do listen .

The JTC provides hundreds of hunters a place to hunt. Without the JTC many hunters will lose their only place to hunt. Save the wildlife do not close the JTC.

Good News …
Have learned authorizations for hunting @ JTC are progressing “full steam ahead”.
Deer permits have and continue to be sent out. Concerning deer permits - rumor has it there may some still available, so call if you’re interested.
In addition, the small game permits are expected to be issued beginning the end of this month.
You can thank the hard work of those individuals managing these programs @ JTC and the support local sportsman and woman have provided. Keep up the good work and getting the word out !

For Small Game and Deer hunting, applications for the lottery (selection and access)are put in the “Hunters Shack” on TA around March 1st. The selection process is usually completed by mid-April with those chosen usually notifed by late-May to early-June.
Permits for Turkey seasons are laid out in the Hunters Shack a couple months before the seasons. If you’re interested in these, I suggest visiting the shack - there’s a lot of helpful information posted there.

It is important that JTA remain open for future generations. If the Army does not keep it open for military training, it must be kept open for the utilization of sportsmen. The Chicago area and northern Illinois lacks open space. This area is ideal for all area sportsmen as well as residents that do not participate in outdoot activities.
